One Pemberton Square, Suite 4100, Boston, MA 02108-1792

The Social Law Library is located in the John Adams Courthouse in the Government Center section of Boston. Although one historian described it as Boston’s “most thoroughly concealed” public building, the John Adams Courthouse is not all that hard to find. Just go to Government Center and find Boston City Hall. Immediately across the street from the front of City Hall is a block-long, semi-circular office building called “Center Plaza.” The John Adams Courthouse is behind the Center Plaza. Just go through the archways at Center Plaza and the John Adams Courthouse is the majestic, granite courthouse on the left. The Social Law Library is on the 4th floor.

PARKING: For those driving, the Center Plaza complex has a parking garage. The entrance is on Somerset Street.

There’s also parking at the nearby Government Center Parking Garage. It’s a block or two away from the Courthouse. Just find City Hall and follow the directions above. And there’s also the Boston Common Garage just a bit further away.

Public Transportation: Please Note: The Government Center T Stop is closed for renovations. Please visit the MBTA site to determine your best public transportation route to the Library.

From the North: Take I-93 South, exit at Storrow Drive. Follow directions for Storrow Drive below.

From Storrow Drive: Take the Cambridge Street/Government Center exit, drive up Cambridge Street past Massachusetts General Hospital (on the left) and the Holiday Inn (on the left). Just past the top of the hill you will pass the Federal Building (on the left). After the next light Center Plaza will be on your right.

From the South: Take I-93 (the Southeast Expressway) north, into the new tunnel. Take Exit 23, which is the exit for Government Center. At the top of the ramp, go left and follow North Street to the end. Go left on Congress Street, then right at the first light onto Court Street. At the end of the street, turn right onto Cambridge Street. Center Plaza (and the John Adams Courthouse behind it) will be on your left.

From the West: Take the Massachusetts Turnpike to Cambridge/Storrow Drive exit (exit is on the left). Stay to the right on the off-ramp, and merge into Cambridge Street. Take the right onto Storrow Drive, which is before you go over the Charles River bridge, then follow directions for Storrow Drive above. OR Take the Turnpike to I-93 in downtown Boston, exit onto I-93 North, and follow directions for "From the South" above.
